Albena seaside resort of is located 32 km north of Varna and about 12km southwest of the small coastal town of Balchik - on a long sand stretch. The resort officially opened in 1968. It is situated beneath a relatively high hill and is close to the Baltata forest, part of which is declared natural preserved area.
Albena resort's architecture is quite attractive - most of the hotels have a terraced structure with the aim to provide more sun into the rooms and between the buildings. The resort was named after the character of Albena, the main female figure of extraordinary beauty in one of the most famous plays by the great Bulgarian writer, Yordan Yovkov.
At the same time, its proximity to Albena makes it easy for tourists to sunbathe at Albena's beautiful white-sand beaches during the day. There are also three big camping sites located on the way between Kranevo and Albena and they offer accommodation in bungalows and tents.
Albena resort features a number of key tourist facilities: tennis courts, bars, casino, restaurants with night shows, children playgrounds, swimming pools, and a golf course. Tourists can enjoy all kinds of activities - bikes, cutters, sailboats, yachts, waterwheels and even horse riding. Water sport facilities are available with instructors as well.
There is regular bus transportation from Balchik, Varna, Golden Sands resort and Dobrich to the resort of Albena, with alternative transportation by private minibuses, route and ordinary taxis, and even water transportation.
