The sanctuary in Tatul will soon turn into a tourist attraction

Theonly sanctuary known to have been dedicated to legendary Orpheus was inthe village of Tatul, Momchilgrad region. The megalithic monuments inthe Eastern Rhodopes are as ancient as the Pyramids in Egypt, a factcategorically proven by this year's final excavations and the uniquemegalithic monument in Kardjali region.
The financial injectionfrom the PHARE Crossborder Cooperation project made it possible tofinalize the expedition to Tatul. The infrastructure of the regionaround the temple will be improved and the conservation of the monumentwill start soon.
"We know that we have come across a uniquemegalithic complex; the surrounding architectural complex is amazinglywell preserved," said head of the team Prof. Nikolay Ovcharov.
It has been proved that the sanctuary existed for some 6,000 years.
