Archeological Reserve Cherven


The Archeological Reserve Medieval Town of Cherven is situated near the village of Cherven, about 32 km south of the city of Rousse. It is the biggest medieval fortified settlement in the Polomie region. The medieval town consisted of two parts – a Citadel and a downtown. The archeological reserve includes the remains of the fortress, the metropolitan church and the boyar castle. Visitors of the reserve can see the best preserved medieval tower in Bulgaria, reaching 12 m in height, an underground tunnel, which served as a well to supply water in times of siege, as well as the remains of a total of 13 churches.
